Stone Ministry's History
The Stone Ministry was conceived at the Camp around 1999 but not acted on until 2003. For the following year the Stone Ministry Founders evaluated 19 different possible sites for the process to take place and the structure to evolve. The site chosen is a fern-covered hemlock-encircled site located about 600 feet into the woods from the nearest campsite. This majestic site is accessible to campers as a gathering place yet sufficiently remote for solitude

A building design was developed that is flexible so that stone cementing by individuals can go on for decades. It is not our goal to finish the structure, but rather to make available the stone anchors for campers. Initially the structure will take the form of a fireplace and chimney. Gradually, depending on the popularity of the program, the structure will evolve into a stone chapel in the woods.

After soil investigation and some clearing of trees, a foundation for the fireplace and west wall of stone arches was installed during the fall of 2004

Stone cementing sessions began with the 2005 camping season. The Kingswood volunteer community was given the opportunity to cement in the first stones during the spring camp setup weekend.
